Applets still play a role for us in hidden non gui components for serverside communications, i.e. allowing data updates without page refreshes and executing javascript from the applet to update the page.&lt;/p&gt;

Unfortunately I&#039;d have to say this is too small a step, too late in the game to become mainstream.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;However, from a technical point of view... I think it&#039;s a pretty damn impressive project! I&#039;d never have thought it was possible to have Javascript speak to Applets so fluently.&lt;/p&gt;
